Lindsay Group To Play On Monday

The Lindsay Music Group, the principal New Zealand offering in the Christchurch Chamber Music Society’s p r flgramme this winter, is to give a concert in Christchurch next Monday.

Formed around the New Zealand Quartet and led by Alex Lindsay, who is leader of the N.Z.B.C. Symphony Orchestra, the group includes Philip Todd, tenor. Marcel Lambert, horn, and Barry Margan. piano.

Philip Todd is a former member of the Deller Consort, from which he resigned at the end of 1967 to take up ! a position as senior lecturer

in music at Auckland University. He has given a number of recitals since his arrival a year ago. Marcel Lambert is co-prin-cipal horn in the N.Z.B.C. Symphony Orchestra. He was born in California and studied the French horn with his father, a graduate from the Paris Conservatory. For 12 years before he came to ,New Zealand, he was first horn in the Peru National Symphony Orchestra in Lima. Barry Margan is an Aucklander who studied and performed in Britain, where he was appointed an associate professor of the Royal School of Music. Since his return to New Zealand two years ago he has fulfilled more than 120 engagements in all parts of the country. The Lindsay Music Group will perform the Handel cantata “In praise of harmony,” for tenor, string quartet and niano: the Brahms horn trio in E flat: a chaconne by Purcell; Britten’s Canticle 111 for tenor, horn and piano, and the Vaughan Williams song cycle, “On Wenlock Edge," for tenor, piano and string quartet.
