CHATHAM IS. FARMERS
Lack Of Fence Materials : The need for fencing I materials was the main concern of Chatham Islands farmers, the Conservator of Forests in Canterbury (Mr M. J. Conway) said last I evening. Mr Conway returned from the Chathams at the weekend. He and the Commissioner of Crowns Lands in Wellington (Mr V. P McGlone) had gone to the islands to look into the state of farming there and to study afforestation with a view to, development. There had been some smallscale planting by farmers in the Chathams, but at present they were more concerned about the lack of fencing materials, he said. Mr Conway will report to the Minister of Lands and Forests (Mr D. Maclntyre).
