SYDNEY

Mining stocks were a shade firmer on the Sydney Stock Exchange, whereas oil stocks weakened again with tails outnumbering rises in the ratio of three to one. Woodside lost Tuesday's gain to finish at 210 c. Industrials finished the day on a steady note. 8.H.P., after easing to 1700 c. recovered to close at 1720 c. Thiess rose 10c to 375 c. Slater Walker gained 10c to 910 c.

MELBOURNE Minings were mostly modestly lower on the Melbourne Stock Exchange, but Hamersley rose 40c at 1300 c and Pinevale 42c at 340 c. Queensland Mines lost 30c at 970 c. Oils generally were steady. However, Magellan finished 15c lower at 310 c and Woodside dropped 7c at 208 c. Industrial falls exceeded rises. B.H.P. closed 5c lower at 1713 c. LONDON The London Stock Exchange eased on Tuesday, in hesitant trading after Monday’s sharp fall under fears of a tough ' British Budget. Oils were dull, i extending their losses, but modest buying support at the lower levels lifted them from the bottom.
