OUT OR NOT?
The dismissal of the New Zealand batsman, B. E. Congdon, by the West Indies captain, G. S. Sobers, on the last day of the third test on Monday was the subject of considerable discussion among spectators. Congdon was given out, bowled, after the bowler’s umpire, who had been unsighted, conferred with the square-leg umpire. Some spectators believed that the ball had not bowled Congdon, but had rebounded from the wicket-keeper’s gloves or pads. This photograph of the incident suggests that the ball did not hit the wicket.
