Service to Rugby
rfHE familar face of Mr W. D. Johnston will be missing from meetings of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union this winter. After 12 years on the committee, Mr Johnston has decided to step down—but his interest in Rugby will be as keen as ever. In his work on the equipment sub-committee, Mr Johnston was zealousness itself. Although he took some good-natured banter over the football which dis-
appeared during the FranceNew Zealand test last season, he seldom failed to account for a jersey or a ball. He showed the ability of a Sherlock Holmes in tracking down missing trophies. Mr Johnston was also the moving force behind the formation of the union’s collection of historic Rugby items, and the display in the Lancaster Park lounge is a great credit to him. He will continue to exercise a fatherly control over the collection, and hopes that it will reach impressive proportions.
