N.Z. FEATURED IN AIRLINE MAGAZINE
The March issue of Pan American Airways “Worldwide Marketing Horizons” features New Zealand and has an analysis of the country as an expanding economy. A photograph of Mount Egmont is on the cover.
Describing consolidation of the country since the adverse trade balance of 196768, the four-page article outlines the recent Industrial expansion which has led to development as an exporting community. The article mentions specifically the new steel mill at Glenbrook, the joint Japanese-British-Australian aluminium smelter at Bluff, and the three-year-old New ZealandAustralia Free Trade Agreement. The article also describes New Zealand’s lessening dependence on primary
exports as a source of overseas exchange. The article notes the emergence of Japan as a prime customer for New Zealand mutton, and the United States as a customer for beef. An increase of 300 per cent in tourism and the consequent upgrading of tourist accommodation is also mentioned. The New Zealand story will go to the desks of 193,000 businessmen round the world. The magazine is printed in seven languages. Pan Am’s “Worldwide Marketing Horizons” is a trade publication and includes the free listing of export products requiring buyers throughout the world. The March issue has three New Zealand listings in this section— solid-grained timber panels, nylon watch straps, and vintage aircraft
