SYDNEY The mining and oil market on the Sydney stock market fell back yesterday in sympathy with the sharp overnight decline in London. Some of the gloom was dispelled by the Woodside-Mid-Eastern report of hydrocarbon shows below 12.006 ft in the Dampier well, and this late news lifted both stocks. Woodside paids rising 9c to 218 c. Most mining leaders fell, however. B.H.P. dropped 30c to 1720 c and the rights shed 35c to 1220 c and Slater Walker wiped out Monday’s S6c jump with a 100 c fall to 900 c, but otherwise industrials were steady with rises and falls even.

MELBOURNE Minings eased with leaders down round 40c on the Melbourne stock market yesterday. Queensland Mines dropped 70c at 1000 c. Cocks Eldorado jumped 35c to 145 c on renewed speculation. Oils featured Woodside, which dropped to 195 c early but finished better at 215 c after new oil shows in Dampier No. 1 (W.A.). Other oils declined. Industrial falls shaded rises in narrow trading. B.H.P. finished 35c low at 1720 c. after a low at 1700 c. Slater Walker down 40c at 940 c.
