No Prison For Nude Dancers
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)
GHENT, March 18.
A Belgian court of appeal has suspended a three-month prison sentence passed on Yoko Ono, a Japanese girl friend of John Lennon, of Beatles fame, in Bruges last June. Ono and her American husband, the film director, Anthony Cox, were sentenced for dancing naked after a performance of a play by the Flemish playwright, Hugo Claus, at Knokke, in northern Belgium. The Ghent Court of Appeal upheld the FrIO.OOO fine imposed on Claus, who had been convicted of offending public morality by introducing three nude men, representing the Holy Trinity, in the play, but suspended his four-month prison sentence. It also upheld a similar fine imposed on a Frenchman, Jacques Lebel, who also danced in the nude, but it suspended his seven-month sentence.
