Stage Debut Of Ginger Rogers

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 21

London critics today joined the Drury Lane audience in saluting Ginger Roger's stage debut, but panned the muchpublicised “Marne” in which she stars.

The drama critic for “The Times,” Irving Wardle, wrote: “Miss Rogers glows and radiates a blend of sensual' magic and athletic pleasure of a kind I have never before seen combined on one performer.”

But the star does not escape unscathed.

In the “Daily Telegraph” John Barber wrote: “The character needs to be played with unholy glee. Miss Rogers tackles her with a wary relish that comes across as less Marne than time.”

The “Daily Mirror” critic, Arthur Thirkell, said the 57-year-old Miss Rogers “radiates! unflagging zest in a showj which leans heavily on her personality to project a story that at times seems awfully small . . . she looked around 25.”
