INSTALMENT RATES

Board Not Impressed

The Christchurch Drainage Board cannot see any advantage in an instalment rating system suggested by the Paparua County Council.

The secretary - treasurer (Mr T. A. Tucker) reported to the board last evening that unless there was some uniformity among all the territorial local authorities in the board’s area he could see no advantage. The county’s drainage and sewerage rates comprised only a small proportion of the board’s rates, he said. The proposed due date for the first instalment was midSeptember, by which time the board would already have incurred a substantial overdraft.
