More N.Z. Plays
Two more James K. Baxter plays, written while Mr Baxter was Burns fellow at the University of Otago, are to be premiered this year by the Globe Theatre in Dunedin. As well, the Globe Theatre is to produce a Frank Sargeson play, “A Time for Sowing,” with sets designed by the Auckland artist, Colin McCahon. The first of the Baxter plays, “The Day That Flanagan Died" —based on the playwright's ballad of the same title—is to be produced early next month, and the second, “The Temptation of Oedipus,” about the middle of the year.
At present the Sargeson play is scheduled for production in July. Christopher Cathcart, who produced it for its premiere in Auckland in 1961, is to go to Dunedin to take the main role.
