DIFFICULT DRAW

N.Z. Pacer In Final

Twinkle Hanover, the New Zealand-bred pacer, which has captured the imagination of the trotting public with two wins In heats of the 1969 InterDominion pacing championship early last week, suffered badly In the draw for the final on Saturday. He drew the outside of the second row.

Adios Court, which was placed in all three of his heats, had the luck to draw the coveted pole position on the small Wayville track for the fourth successive time.

With the barrier draw now known, Twinkle Hanover has eased from 2/1 to 3/1, while Adios Court has come into 3/1 equal favourite with the New Zealand-bred gelding. Leading Light, New Zealand’s only official representative for the championships, drew No. 5. which places him next to outside on the front row.

Leading Light, which was suited by the longer journey last Saturday night, should have no trouble in re-adapting to the shorter 12 furlong trip. His driver, D. Jones, has no doubt the horse will really make his home country proud of him. Jones wants the weather to remain similar to that of the last few days as he is sure the hot weather had an adverse effect on Leading Light. It has been cool and mild since late last week and the long-range forecasters Dredict the weather could become slightly cooler as the week progresses.

Golden Alley was included in the barrier draw, but according to owner-trainer. H. Hazelwood, is a verv doubtful starter. Bold David, from Victoria, which has been a constant shortener in the market since the championships began, has drawn the outside of the front row.

South Australia’s Bylaw has drawn No. 2 and if he gets away cleanly will be suited by the small Wayville track. The Grand Final field in barrier order is: Adlos Court (S.A.), Bylaw (S.A.), Richmond Lass <VIc.), Major Winston (N.S.W.). Leading Light <N.Z.), Bold David <Vic.), Laradoc (S.A.). Ascot King (N.S.W.). Moonstone Bay (S.A.). Twinkle Hanover (N.S.W.) It: Golden Alley (Tas.), Fair Feed (Vic.) 12.
