DAMAGED GLASS
Harbour Bd Union Denial The Secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board Employees’ Union (Mr W. E. Wildey) said yesterday that there was definitely no proof that plate glass valued at $2OOO discharged from the Rikke Skou at Cashin Quay recently had been damaged locally. Besides denying that Lyttelton Harbour Board employees handling the cargo ashore had damaged this cargo, Mr Wildey pointed out that the ship had already discharged cargo at Auckland and Wellington. According to Mr Wildey there was substantial evidence that the cargo had shifted. This could have happened during the voyage, he said. The glass could have been damaged between the factory and the United States port in which it was loaded or at a port of discharge in New Zealand or between the transit shed at Cashin Quay and the recipiept.
