Baboon Hearts
The South African heart surgeon, Dr Christiaan Barnard, says he has been thinking about alleviating the shortage of heart donors by using baboon hearts as an interim transplant to keep a patient alive until a human heart is available. Dr Barnard said this in an interview which was part of a study report on organ transplants ordered by Governor Nelson Rockefeller. The report was released yesterday. New York, February 23.
