TRAVELLED PLAYER
"He must be one of the most travelled footballers in Christchurch,” said a member of the Canterbury Rugby League board of control, Mr J. Anderson, when the Marist-Western Suburbs club informed the board that it had cleared J. C. Hawthorne to transfer.
Hawthorne, a Canterbury and Southern Zone representative centre, will play for Eastern Suburbs this year. Since he arrived in Christchurch from Auckland in 1964 Hawthorne has played for the Christchurch (now Eastern Suburbs), Papanul, and MaristWestern Suburbs clubs.
