UNIFORM DISPUTE
Girl Attends Classes (N.Z. Preu Aftodation) AUCKLAND, Feb. 24. May-Ling Sie, aged 13, attended classes at Rangitoto College today without a uniform. The chairman of the board of governors (Mr K. Macduff) said he did not think the situation concerning MayLing had changed. The principal (Mr F. D. Tucker) refused to speak to a reporter. May-Ling’s father (Mr R. L. Sie) said that although the teachers had been instructed to ignore his daughter she was still getting education by being in the class. She was also working hard at home. Mr Sie said that while uniforms were worn by many who performed worth-while duties in the community he could see no good reason for school uniforms.
He regarded the instruction that his daughter be ignored if she arrived in classes without a uniform as an unethical interference in her right to an education.
