Doctor Of Letters

The first degree of doctor of letters has been conferred on Dr G.' W. Parkyn by the University of Cant.rbury. The high degree was awarded very largely on two volumes Dr Parkyn had written for the Council of Educational Research on success and failure in the university, said the vice-chancellor (Professor N. C. Phillips). Examiners overseas had spoken very highly of the work. Dr Parkyn had graduated B.A. in 1932 and M.A. in 1934.

The degree of doctor of philosophy was conferred on J. S. Ayers (in chemistry); W. B. Silvester (in botany); I. G. Stirling (in zoology). The degree of master of agricultural science, second class honours, second division, was conferred on A. H. Hayman.

The degree of master of engineering (electrical), with distinction, was conferred on A. J. Zonneveld.
