WOMEN’S BOWLS
57 Qualify In Fours (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. Rain held off long enough yesterday afternoon to allow 57 teams to qualify for postsection play, beginning today in the New Zealand women’s fours bowls tournament. Several showers considerably slowed the greens and many games were called off by players who had already qualified or bad lost at least three games and were out of the running for post-section play. Four teams qualified by winning all six of their games. They included two teams from the Caversham club (Dunedin), skipped by Mrs A. Burgess and Mrs E. Wilson. The others were the Winton Central club, led by Mrs J. Balch, and Mrs A. Beazley’s four from Linwood. Two teams did not qualify with the same ease. Mrs W. Davidson’s four from St Kilda won their fourth game, 21-19 with a two on the last end. Mrs L. Moyna’s Belfast four also won their fourth game on the last end, 21-20.
