CHCH PARTY FOR GHANA
Supervisors At Tyre Plant ! Thirty men, women, and children from Christchurchi will be flown to Ghana by the Firestone Tire and Rubber! Company of New Zealand,! Ltd, to live there for six toi nine months. The 10 men in the party! are employees at Firestone's Papanui plant, and will act! in a supervisory capacity at a new Firestone tyre factory built outside Takoradi. the main port of Ghana. The factory manager of the Papanui plant (Mr R. W. Becker) said yesterday that the New Zealanders’ main job would be to train Ghanaians in the various skills of tyremaking. Other Ghanaians would be trained by the New Zealanders to become supervisors when the New Zealanders returned home. The Christchurch staff would fly to Ghana this month and next month. Six wives and 14 children would be making the trip. Mr Becker said that the New Zealanders would live in two and three-bedroom flats in a compound built by Firestone.
