Walker Goes 20 Miles
The veteran walker, Mr T. A. Sampson, yesterday covered almost twice the distance he intended —he reached Ealing, 20 miles from Ashburton.
When Mr Sampson left Ashburton shortly after 6.30 a.m. he intended to stop at Hinds, but found conditions more pleasant than he expected, so carried on. He reached Hinds at 12.5 p.m. and had lunch at the tavern there, leaving for Ealing at 1.45 p.m. He covered the extra eight miles and a half in less than three hours, arriving at Ealing at 4.30 p.m. Mr Sampson stayed the night with Mr J. A. Robertson and will leave this morning for Temuka, about 15 miles away.
