Rhodesia Mystery
(N'.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 2. The mystery of a reported Rhodesi-n move to revive independence talks with Britain deepened today, with Government spokesmen still insisting that no proposal had reached London. But in spite of the official denials, press correspondents in Salisbury continue to assert that a message was sent through the British mission there on Thursday. Press reports at first suggested this message dealt with a “‘secret plan” from the Rhodesian Prime Minister (Mr lan Smith) for resolving the dispute, but later dispatches refer to a request for clarification of some of the British settlement terms. Informed sources in London dp not rule out the possibility that Mr Smith could be carrying out some probing operation in the exchanges that take place between his officials and members of the residual British Mission in the Rhodesian capital. ’
