MAY WINNER AT TIMARU

The Manurewa rider, L. May, was the outstanding rider in the second-to-last round of the New Zealand motor-cycle road racing championships and Rothmans series at Timaru at the week-end. May won the 500 c.c. class on his big Norton alter dominating the 350 c.c. class on an A.J.S. in the previous race. He is now certain of winning the national 500 c.c. title for the second season in succession and could improve oh his third placing in the 350 c.c. class with a win at the New Zealand Grand Prix at Easter. P. Richards (Auckland) took over the lead in the 250 c.c. championship and Rothmans series with a fine win over K. McCleary (Christchurch). The pre-race points leader, G. Perry (Auckland), blew up his Suzuki in practice and was unable to race. W. G. Molloy (Huntly) and T. Discombe (Hamilton) were both absent preparing for their trip to Australia. Results of championship events were: 250 c.c.: P. Richards (Auckland) 1, K. McCleary (Christchurch) 2, K. Williams (Auckand) 3. 350 c.c.: L. May (Manurewa) 1, D. Wylie (Christchurch) 2, R.
