SUEZ CANAL PLAN
Improvements Sought (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. Feb. 3. Egypt plans huge improvements when it reopens the Suez Canal, closed during the Middle East War 18 months ago, the chairman of the Canal’s Authority was quoted as saying today. Mr Ahmed Mashhour said it would take at least three months and £Bm to reopen the canal. He said that he was unable to comment on when reopening would take place. The Suez Canal Authority would seek £l3om from either the World Bank or Arab States to enable the canal to take oil tankers of up to 250.000 tons, Mr Mashhour said.
