EFFECT ON WANE
Breath-tester In U.K. (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 2. The breathtester is now losing its effect on road accidents in London, according! to the Commissioner of Police for Metropolitan London (Sir John Waldren). In a letter to Mr A. K, | Greves, of Caster Bay, Auckland, Sir John Waldron says: “After the advent of breathtesting in October, 1967, we had a tremendous reduction! in accidents for the first 10 months of 1968, but, like so! many good innovations, it is losing its effect and we had some bad returns for November and December. “People were frightened to drive at all or to go near al public house in a car, but now they can estimate how much they can drink before! they are likely to reach the; mimimum limit, so the traffic is on the road again at nights."
