China’s View Of America
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HONG KONG, Jan. 31. China said today the United States was “speeding to its decline and doom after only 20 years as a world Power.” The attack published by the official “People’s Daily,” was the latest of Peking’s almost-daily verbal assaults on America since President Nixon’s announcement on Monday that the United States would continue to oppose the seating of China in the United Nations until Peking changes its policies. The “People’s Daily” said: “The United States raked in fabulous ill-gained fortunes during the two world wars: then, with the dollar in one band and the atomic bomb in the other, ran amuck like a mad dog in a vain attempt to build a big empire. “The British Empire, on which it was claimed the sun never set, maintained its prosperity for more than 200 years, but has declined in the end. “United States imperialism, which climbed to the pinnacle of power just after the Second World War is speeding to its decline and doom | after only 20-odd years.”
