Market Closes On Firm Note; Leaders Gain
The New Zealand sharemarket closed on a firm note as stock exchanges ceased trading for the week. Rises outnumbered falls two to one, and were well spread in moderate movement. The overseas list was easier.
Trading was less active than on Thursday. Leaders were again firm. Insurances were again firmer, New Zealand up 4c to 440 c, and South British 3c higher at 543 c. Taranaki Brewery gained 1c to 119 c, the highest recorded price since Dominion Breweries made its bid, now worth about 121 c. Associated British Cables recovered sc, to 205 c. In the overseas list B.H.P. shed 10c to close the week at 2020 c;
