Elvis Presley’s Car
Sir, —Not being a fan of Elvis Presley, 1 think he is to be admired for his gesture: of lending his car for char ] ity purposes. If R.T.M. liked:
to get his facts right he would find thal Mr Presley already gives well in excess of $70,000 to charity each year. I'm sure that the tour of this car will gross far more than the cost of the car and more organisations throughout the world will benefit from it. Is R.T.M.’s letter a smack at Elvis Presley or is he just another “short back and sides moaner”?—Yours, etc., R. R. LANCASTER. Ashburton, January 21, 1969
Sir,—What moans one has to read these days. No doubt paying the extra to see Elvis i Presley’s car touched deeply ■ the pocket of so many. There was, however, no complaints about the “Vodka” car also on display—perhaps the price was just right for this one Nor. it seems, was the weight —some three tons, of the Presley car—worthy of comment, but all fans of his would easily recognise their idol’s “personal” touch, and noi price is too much for that.— [ Yours, etc., BOLOGNA. January 22, 1969.
