FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT A ridge of high pressure extends from the north Tasman Sea across the I North Island. A trough of low pressure is advancing rapidly across the south Tasman Sea towards the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury. Freshening northerly winds; rain developing in the Alps; otherwise i fair and warm. Buller and Westland.—Fresh gusty northwesterlies; becoming cloudy; rain this afternoon; mild. Nelson Freshing westerly winds; cloudy, with showers about the western ranges; more general showers this afternoon; mild. Marlborough.—Fresh to strong northwest winds; fine and warm, but with increasing cloud this afternoon and a few isolated showers ovei’ the ranges.
