Conrad Still Delayed

The veteran. American pilot Mr Max Conrad is still grounded with his Piper Aztec aircraft at Adelaide Island, in the Antarctic, in the course of his flight around the world over the North and South Poles. A spokesman at United States Antarctic headquarters in Christchurch said yesterday that Mr Conrad was waiting for extensive favourable weather before continuing his Antarctic flight from Adelaide Island to Byrd Station a distance of about 1300 miles.

He landed at Adelaide Island soon after Christmas but has been uable to get any assurance of reasonable flying conditions for the next leg of the journey.’ Mr Conrad, aged 65, flew from Chile to the Antarctic on December 21, landing at Palmer Station on Anvers Island off the Antarctic Peninsula.
