Watching And Waiting

Whatever the Prime Minister of Canada (Mr Trudeau) does or says at the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference in London will make news.

And whatever comment is cabled to New Zealand about the “new boy’s” performances at the summit meeting will be of particular interest to a visitor from Canada, now staying at Hororata. Canada was watching Mr Trudeau hopefully as its new leader, Mrs Harold Hollinrake, of Vancouver, said in Christchurch yesterday. “The Canadian people wanted someone vigorous and youthful, like the late John Kennedy, for a Prime Minister. They wanted action,” she said. “But so far Mr Trudeau has not really achieved very much."

Mr Trudeau was very good at making quick, witty answers to questions put to him, without committing himself, Mrs Hollinrake said. As a bachelor, he aroused considerable curiosity. “Every outing he has with a woman is wall publicised,” she said. “He is a very charming man and makes a very good impression wherever he goes.” Mm Hollinrake, the former Miss'Bryony Gray, of Christchurch, has brought her two small daughters to New Zealand to see their grandparents, Mr and Mrs D. W. Gray, of Hororata. Secretary to the manager of the Christchurch Press Company for several years, she decided to visit Canada and the United States in 1960. In Vancouver she met and married Mr Harold Hollinrake, a lawyer. This is her second visit home since her marriage. On her earlier return visit she

brought her husband and their elder daughter, Kathryn (then a baby), but thia is three-year-old Marisa's first meeting with New Zealand relatives.
