Support-Force Command

Rear-Admiral D. F. Welch has been named by the Chief of Naval Personnel in Washington to succeed RearAdmiral J. L. Abbot as commander of the United States Navy Antarctic support force. It is expected that the change of command will occur in the second half of this year. Admiral Welch is expected to fly to Christchurch next month and make a quick trip to Antarctica, accompanied by Admiral Abbot. He will return to the United States about mid-February. Admiral Welch at present .commands Amphibious Group 14, Norfolk, Virginia.
