$3.7 m Port Work At Tauranga

TAURANGA, January 6. Plans for the expenditure of $3,713,000 on a wide range of port improvements in the next two years were put before a special meeting of the Tauranga Harbour Board this morning.

The raising of loans totalling 51,290,000 for further port development was authorised by the board. The board also decided to seek the approval of <he local authorities Loans Board for a further loan total of

51,606,000 for the construction of additional cargo berthage (No. 8 extension SI,250,000), a building for the customs service, and berths for tugs. The rest of the money required will come from the board’s reserves and revenue. Other work, already approved by the Loans Board, for which the harbour board authorised the floating of loans, includes:— Customs building SBO.OOO. Hardstanding and sealing $95,000. Rail siding 515,000. Parking in wharf area 550.000.
