Knife-Throwing Mishap

A knife-thrower with Didgway’s Circus, performing at the Northlands Shopping Centre yesterday, cut his female assistant on the forehead. Known as the Dilettos, the team was performing one of its standard acts, in which the thrower attempts to cut a cigarette held in his assistant’s mouth.

The assistant was taken to a doctor at Papanui, who put stitches in the cut. Hospital treatment was not required. A spokesman for the circus said that the knifethrower had been performing the act for about seven years ! without mishap, but he had jeut his hand on Sunday and ■ this had affected the balance.

The team is expected to perform today. .
