A large meat pie bought in i a Christchurch shop is sus- i pected by the Health Depart- 1 ment of having poisoned a 1 family of four over the Christ- ■ > mas-New Year period. The < organism concerned is believed to be Clostridium jt welchii. ’ i The department also investi- 1 1 gated two other cases of sus- ' pected food poisoning, but; was unable to show positively 1 that foodstuffs were involved, p During the year 239 cases 11 of food poisoning were reported to the department.! compared with only three! cases in 1967. There were! also 215 cases of infective! hepatitis, compared with 60 the year before. Eleven more cases of in-! fective hepatitis were reported in the last fortnight, , including four in the worst-;! hit area—Wainoni-Aranui. 1 Also reported were three li cases of pulmonary tubercu-i losis, one of non-pulmonary < tuberculosis, and two of leptospirosis.
