TYPHOID CASE
Soldier At Waiouru (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 29. A soldier at Waiouru Military Camp has recovered from an attack of typhoid fever, and is now free of the infection, said an Army Department spokesman today. The disease was positively identified at the week-end. The soldier was being treated last week for suspected typhoid, the spokesman said. All the men in the Waiouru Camp had been inoculated against typhoid. There had been no need for special measures to guard against a wider outbreak. The source of the disease was still a mystery, the spokesman said. The soldier concerned had not been out of New Zealand during the typhoid incubation period. The possibility of a typhoid carrier in the camp was not being ruled out, but he considered this only “theoretically possible.” The affected soldier would be kept in the camp until home leave could be arranged.
