CHRISTMAS FRUIT
No Apples, No Pineapples (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. Apples and pineapples will not be available during the Christmas period, although there are adequate supplies of oranges and bananas. The season for New Zealand apples had finished, the last major distribution to retailers having been near the end of November, a spokesman for the Apple and Pear Board said today. “Usually Canadian apples are sold in New Zealand over Christmas, but this year we were unable to get an import licence and there will be no apples,” he said. Adequate supplies of Australian oranges, and Costa Rican and Island bananas were available, and there should be no difficulty in obtaining them, the manager of Fruit Distributors, Ltd (Mr C. R. Walker), said today.
