TOURIST WALKS
Difficulty Faced WELLINGTON, Dec. 18. The development of more tourist walks in Fiordland was made difficult by the type of terrain and rigorous climate encountered in the area, the Minister of Lands (Mr Maclntyre) said in Parliament today. ' The Minister had been asked by Mr G. F. Gair (Nat., North Shore) about the possibilities of more track development in the area in view of the vulnerability of the Milford Track to weather. He said that the Fiordland National Park was developing a track from Lake Hauroko to Dusky Sound, and there were two other tracks in the area, the Hollyford track and the Routeburn track, which were run by private interests.
Mr Maclntyre said that his department had no present plans to develop more walks, but that the Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Park Boards were developing more walks as circumstances warranted.
