Pool Owners Throughout The World, Say “Who Says You Can’t Buy Happiness?”
Listen to the joyful sounds of children splashing in the water. See a happy family, healthy youngsters, and close friends, enjoying a modern pool, and you’ll qualify that statement. A car, a caravan or boat, costs more to operate, demands more care, and quickly depreciates.
But a swimming pool brings triple dividends —family fun, health, and flourishing property - values.
And it isn’t too* late to get in the swim this summer, if you start to plan now.
With the steady increase in the number of swimming pools in New Zealand, more stringent rules have been introduced. Until recently, a pool holding 5000 gallons or less needed no permit, but now you must supply your City Council with the following: Details of construction; block plan showing relationship of pool to boundaries; details of filtration system (in some localities only a filtered pool is acceptable); method of water disposal.
Usually the pool must be emptied into a stormwater drain, and the backwash from the filter into the sewer. These points vary with the locality or situation. Some pools I saw used the water for irrigating garden or farm. Some drained into an adjacent stream, but you need to check before doing either of these things. Finally, do take out a comprehensive liability insurance policy. It costs very little, but could mean a great deal.
