Wage Crisis In U.K.
(N.Z.P. A. ’Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 16. The British Government faced new trouble today in uneasy relations with the trade union movement. Less than a week before Parliament’s Christmas recess, conflict over pay in the building industry moved to crisis stage. A special Commons sitting was arranged for Thursday morning to discuss an emergency wage increase freeze imposed by the Employment Minister, Mrs Barbara Castle. Observers forecast a backbench revolt that could jolt the Government.
