“Swimmers Of 1968”
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) HOLLYWOOD. The Americans. C. Hickcox and Miss D. Meyer, have been named “world swimmers of 1968” by the editors of the “Swimming World” magazine. Hickcox, aged 21, set world records in the 200 and 400 metres individual medley in the American Olympic trials and at Mexico City won both events and was second in the 100 metres backstroke. The 16-year-old Miss Meyer holds three Olympic gold medals and has the world record in the 200, 400. 800 and 1500 metres freestyle.
