Lively Country And Western Show
Fast-flowing entertainment was provided at the concert by the Christchurch Country and Western Club last evening. The small but enthusiasticaudience thoroughly enjoyed the variety of styles and subjects chosen by the large list of performers. In spite of the poor acoustics in the hall chosen for the concert, most of the items were polished and pleasingly presented. Of particular note were the series of items presented by the Dugan family—Brendan, known for his professional performances and recordings, his father, Pat. his sister, Annette, and his mother, Coral. Also well-received were Jim Lange and Bev lAncell with a steel guitar duo. [Neil Anderson, who provided the drum accompaniment for I most items, also gave vocal solos. An unusual but deservedly [popular item was that by bearded George Stuart on the musical saw. The Beale Street String Stretchers made an unscheduled appearance and their bracket of numbers was well received. Malcolm Marshall, who was with the Caroline Ramblers, also appeared and gave a polished performance. Folk music was introduced into the programme by Doni Murchison. An exhibition of square-;
dancing provided by Alan Anderson and his troupe really brought the country air to the concert. Continuity was provided informally by the compere, the Rev. David Manning, who; also performed.
