Books ‘Bugged’

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 17. Library books in Britain are being “bugged” so that they cannot be stolen. Valuable reference library volumes have been fitted with metal strips, and when a book is issued normally from a librarian’s desk this is “desensitised.” But if anyone tries to take away a book without authority the metal strip sets off a Hashing light or buzzer as the thief passes through a checkpoint.
