CRITICISM OF U.N.
Attitude Of S. Africa (N.Z.P.A.-Reuttr—CopyrtgM) PRETORIA, Dec. 15. South Africa on Friday strongly attacked the application of “double standards” in the United Nations and the United Nations capacity to deal properly with its duties. Citing the unsuccessful Afro-Asian attempt to exclude South Africa from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (U.N.C.T.A.D.) the South African foreign minister (Dr Hilgard Muller) said in a statement that the practice of flouting procedural rules and constitutional provisions, to attain the ends of political vendetas, was becoming increasingly common. At the same time South Africa wa* glad, he said, that the major powers had recognised that the U.N.C.T.A.D. resolution involved important issues effecting the very existence of the United Nations itself. If South Africa had been excluded, Western powers feared that the door would have been open for the expulsion of any other country from United Nations agencies because exception was taken to some aspect of that country's policies.
