OBITUARY

Mr E. T. Kensington Mr Edward Trevor Kensington, a well-known engineer and soldier, died at his home in Wellington last week. He was in the Public Service for 38 years. From 1952 until he retired in April this year, he was assistant staff engineer with the head office. Ministry of Works. Before he joined the Lands and Survey Department at Waimate in 1925, Mr Kensington spent six years with Davie and Harris, in Christchurch, on engineering surveys. From 1927 to 1932 he was associated with flood control and river protection work with the Waimakariri River Trust and for the next three years was concerned with the Canterbury irrigation investigations and the Redcliff irrigation scheme. Southland. Later he was at Ashburton and Springburn. Mr Kensington served in the 2nd N.Z.E.F. for four years and a half in the Middle East and Italy and was mentioned in dispatches twice. He finished his war service as a lieutenant-colonel. After the war Mr Kensington was at Methven and Hinds and for seven years was closely associated with the development of the May-field-Hinds irrigation scheme. For his work with the Territorial Army and his military service Mr Kensington was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
