Joe Doe, winner of the H. A Knight Memorial Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday, has been a successful first venture in racing ownership for Mr K. J. Blair, of Christchurch. i Joe Doe won handily* by a (length and a half at good odds , for a winner of his previous start. He paid $12.85 to win .and rounded off an on-course JI double worth $23.40. ■ The other half of this successful combination was Wingatui's : Blazing Star. which hand- • sornely justified favouritism for the first log by winning the Hororata High-weight by four ‘ i lengths. j B.azing Star, a dominating favourite, ran the mile under 9-8 in the smart tune of tmin 37 3-ssec. On this run he could be a force in major handicaps on the Otago holiday circuit Blazing Star is raced in partnership by Messrs G. H. and R. J. Barton, sons of the !ate Mr G.
