Waimate Cup To Restabell
Restabell made amends for a disappointing run in the Geraldine Cup a fortnight earlier, when she beat the fast-finishing Seafield Countess in the Waimate Cup on Saturday.
! Restabell received the run of the race and did not have i to move off the fence until i the final furlong. The South-land-owned mare only recently joined R. W. Townley's team at Addington. He is the third Townley brother to train Restabell. A. R. Townley, now at Wyndham, trained her for some time, and earlier D. J. Townley had her in his team at Tinwald. Sam Again, a little slow away, was only half a head behind Seafield Countess, with two lengths to Dixie Hanover, which shaded the favourite.
, Vandal, which was pushci 'about in the middle stages i Light View was handy t< 'the straight, and dropped out Trampus returned one ol the fastest times for 13 fur longs on a country course when he won the C. D. Wilson Handicap in 3min 27 3-ssec He led from beginning to enel and drew out from Arkle in the run home to beat that runner by two lengths. Sir Edd. bracketed with ! Arkle. came from well back [for a distant third, ahead of I Winning Song. ; Vandior was sore in his pre lliminary and was a late scratching. j Zhivago's win in the Roi Il'Or Handicap was a feature [of the minor events. He was slow away and had to wort I hard to reach a challenging position at the straight entrance. Even so, he showec no sings of wilting in a hard finish and won by a neck from the consistent Bright Frost, with Mobelle and Credo next. Melody Way started what should be a profitable holiday campaign with a runaway win in the President’s Handicap. She held off Shady Maid by almost four lengths, with Global Hall a fair third, followed by Conclusion. The vin favourite, Pambill, had her chance, but found the pace too strong, and finished seventh. The Publicans' Handicap, the other race for trotters, resulted in a deserved win for Coronet Peak, a six-year-old mare by Court Martial from a well-performed trotter in Coronet Lass. She just lasted to hold off the outsider, Princess Cord, by a nose, with Oscar right up third. Another overdue win was that of Braken in the twomile Dorn Keyes Handicap. He paced the distance in 4min 24 4-ssec. an effort which suggested he would have more success during the holidays. Lady Choice came fast but too late for second, ahead of Bobo and Ivanhoe. Thunder Globe and Paula Jane, which had recent placings, won the races for maiden pacers.
