The 8) per cent increase in trans-Tasman freight rates, announced on Friday, will cost New Zealand’s timber export trade about SIOO.OOO a year, said the manager of the Waipa State mill (Mr A. W. Oakley). The latest freight increases would send the price of 100 board feet of timber up by 25c; and the price of Australian timber was already about the same as that from New Zealand —between Sl2-Sl4 per 100 board feet, he said. “We become less competitive on the overseas market with every cost increase,” Mr Oakley said. i
