Hawke’s Bay Keeps Cup
(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER. Hawke’s Bay retained the Hawke Cup when they defeated North Otago by an innings and 30 runs on the third day at Napier yesterday. North Otago batted first and made 164, and Hawke’s Bay replied with 442, leaving North Otago 278 runs to avoid an innings defeat. North Otago resumed yesterday with 53 for the loss of three wickets, and they were quickly in trouble as the Hawke’s Bay bowling kept them completely subdued. Hawke’s Bay will defend the Hawke Cup at Napier against Ashburton during Christmas. Scores: North Otago 164 and 248 (A. Berry 102; J. Howell 4/49, D. Beuth 3/71), Hawke’s Bay 442 (D. Selby 45, I. Woon 127, M. Shrimpton 71, R. Schofield 66 not out; A. Cartwright 5/143).’
