OCEAN RACE TO PEARSON
K. Pearson (Siimner) won the Sumner Surf Life-Saving Club's tenth annual handicap ocean race from Taylor’s Mistake to Clifton Beach on Saturday. He was off the front mark of 13min. He complete dthe journey 2min ssec ahead of his co-marker, B. Ward (South Brighton); who was Also on a paddleboard. I. Sturrock (North Beach) on a paddleboard, was third. Sumner made a clean sweep of the major titles when D. Lyons and M. Lord, on a double ski, were awarded fastest time by more than a minute from I. Hopkins (Taylor’s Mistake), who competed on a single surf ski. For the first time a women’s canoe crew was entered by Sumner and it did well to complete the two miles and a half in 33min. Results were:— Handicap Section.—K. Pearson (Sutnner). handicap 13min, net time 26min 35sec, 1; B. Ward (South Brighton), 13min, 28min 40sec. 2; I. Sturrock (North Beach), 13n]in, 30min 4sec. 3.
