ANTARCTIC TRIP

WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. Six prominent New Zealanders, including the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk), have been invited by the American Ambassador (Mr J. F. Henning) to visit Antarctica from January 23 to 28. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) was unable to accept because he will be overseas. The members of the party will he: Mr Kirk: Mr W. L. Young, National member of Parliament for Miramar; Mr P. Snell, 1960 and 1964 Olympic Games gold medallist; Mr P Read, of N.Z.B.C. television; Brigadier J. R. Page, director of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme in New Zealand: Mr C. G. Gibbons, chairman of the Wellington Rugby Football Union; and Mr A. C. Lillig, the American Embassy economic officer. The party will be guests of the commander of United States Naval Support Force, Antarctica, Rear Admiral J. L. Abbot.
